1st - Spooky Owls

We focused on negative verses positive space, and the simplicity of a dark owl against a bright full moon with this masterpiece! Students were able to use chalk and simple blending techniques to create the beautiful glow of their moon. We then sponge painted the moons to create a fun, creator-like texture and mixed in a little science information about the moon while we were at it! The branch and owls were painted with tempera paint, and we discussed the importance of being able to break down natural shapes, like an owl, into geometic shapes such as oval & triangles to help us draw/paint as artists! Details were added with oil pastels. Vocabulary covered: Overlap, perspective, negative, positive, geometric and natural.
