K - Sunflowers

Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh, students created a still life of sunflowers. Students used oil pastels and watercolors, and focused on planning a composition from start to finish, as well as drawing from observation. We focused on dissecting the natural shape of the flower, and giving it geometric shapes to simplify the drawing. Students learned the technique of "wax and oil resist" where they were able to paint over their drawings without the drawing being washed away. And as always when the students were adding their images and coloring them we focused on "Quality Craftsmanship" of adding color going in one direction, and filling a space. No sneaky white spots!
