K - Line Monster

Kindergartners started by reading the book "Lines That Wiggle" written by Candace Whitman and illustrated by Steve Wilson. Next, we danced to The Line Song by Soundgarden and practiced creating all types of horizontal lines. Once we filled our papers with lines we added color in-between our lines with watercolors. The next step was to create and collage horns, eyes and a mouth to create our line monster look, and the final addition was learning the accordion fold to add on the arms and legs! The skills emphasized in this project were following directions, cutting with scissors, using liquid glue, using a paintbrush, and creating various types of lines. Vocabulary covered included: horizontal, vertical, curvy, wavy, fancy, straight, zigzag, dashed, long & short, and thick & thin.
