3rd - Pumpkins at Night

Students used a new technique called "glue resist" to trace over their pumpkin lines, their grassy field, their moon and their stars. Once dry we learned about the many colors of pumpkins and how they would glow under the night sky with yellow highlights from the moon, down to the red/brown shadows of the underside! Students learned that in order to continue to have their pumpkins look 3-dimensional the added color must be in the vertical motion from the stem down with color, any horizontal lines flatten their beautiful pumpkins. We explored using chalk on its side to cover more space, especially with messy chalk, less is more! And we blended using our very "fancy" blending tools... a Kleenex! Kids finished up with their grassy terrain with again those natural vertical lines as grass grows from the ground, and finished up with the moon/sky which students could add whirling wind if they chose to do so, stars, or leave just their moon shining in the night!
