The fantastical landscapes in this lesson are found through a magical portal. Students will use symmetrical balance to cut and draw a magical doorway of their choice, whether it be a wardrobe, stone arch, keyhole or something from their imagination. Then they will think about how to create two contrasting scenes, one on this side of the portal and the other found beyond the threshold. The two papers are connected by paper springs, which give the landscape even more depth and feeling of space.
