INTRO: Students were introduced to self-portraiture through a Tate Museum video about the subject. They noted how artists use a wide variety of media, add unique content, poses and detail to create their own spin on a self-portrait. They then watched a video on an artist who turned the letter U and H into a person. They used this technique to create their own self-portrait. Keeping with this years district theme of belonging and collaboration, all of the self-portraits will appear to be holding hands and will have their portrait displayed in the hallways at ZEH. PROJECT: Students began their drawing by using a template next to their paper so that their U, H, the bottoms of their feet and their hands were in the correct places. Next, they learned how to draw facial, clothing and hair details. Each student was asked to have their names somewhere on their bodies and have their hands spread out to the side so that when they are hung in the hallway they can appear to be holding hands. After they have added many fun details, they sharpied their bodies, drew a fun background and then colored their artwork with colored pencils and crayons.
