INTRO:
Students were first read the book "Paul Klee" from the Getting to Know the World's Greatest series written and illustrated by Mike Venezia. They learned that Paul Klee is an abstract painter that enjoyed working with color and shape to create abstract works of art (art that does not fully represent the natural world). Next, they looked at Paul Klee's work, "Castle and Sun" and noted his use of a variety of shapes and colors that somewhat resemble a castle and a sun.

PROJECT:
Students then emulated his work by painting the lines and shapes of the picture using white tempera paint and a thin piece of cardboard. Once it was dry, students colored in their shapes with colored pencil sticks.
