Color Wheel Web

Color Wheel Web For their first creative challenge this year, 2nd Grade was introduced to color theory as they explored the color wheel. To begin this exploration we looked at our example artwork. Students then discussed their thoughts, observations, and takeaways from the example. Continuing on with our exploration students completed a color theory worksheet as Ms. Rizzo explained basic color theory and terminology. To wrap up our group discussion students answered our talking point questions: What do you know about color? Can you tell us what these words mean and give an example: primary, secondary, tertiary, complementary, monochromatic, repetition, and motion? Have you ever used a ruler and colored pencils before? Following our discussion students were given the challenge to create a color wheel web incorporating the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors into their piece. Then students followed multi step directions as Ms. Rizzo guided them on how to lay out their composition. Once their web was created and sectioned into 12 pieces students were asked to use the color wheel example to help them place their colors correctly. When incorporating their color with crayons they experimented with pressure to develop light and heavy layers of their medium.
