Art Dog

For their first project of the School year PreK  students were introduced to the idea of creating an art piece based off of storytelling as we read: Art Dog by Thacher Hurd. This is a great story about a museum guard dog that is an evening  artist on full moons. Art Dog saves the night as a painting was stolen from the museum. After we read the story we answered  our talking points questions: Have you ever gone to a museum? Was Art Dog a Hero? Did Art Dog inspire others with his creations? What do you think are the parts of a portrait?  We then talked about basic elements of a portrait. Following our discussion students followed multi step instructions from Ms. Rizzo as she guided students step by step on how to draw a personalized dog portrait. Students then use crayons to incorporate color into their portrait as well as design a background for their Art Dog Portrait.
