Students learned about Dhurrie rugs of India and that the “magic” carpet from the Aladdin movie is a type of Indian Dhurrie rug. Students discovered and identified the different type of line designs found in the Indian rugs. Students designed their own “magic” carpets by drawing 5 different types of lines (zig-zag, curved, bumpy, broken, wavy, etc.) on paper. They painted their designs with tempera paint. Hole punches were put at the ends of the paper and the students learned how to tie a knot with yarn and added the strings at the ends of their carpets to finish them off.
