Students discovered the art of Roy Lichtenstein and the art style Pop Art. Roy Lichtenstein is one of the founders of Pop Art.  Pop Art is a style of art explores everyday objects, pop culture images or commercial products and uses them as subject matter for their artwork.  Roy Lichtenstein was famous for his portraits that look like they were from a comic book (pop culture).  Students created self-portraits by tracing a “selfie” photograph of themselves and transferring it to drawing paper.  They added a text bubble to express a phrase or word to describe themselves. The portraits were colored with marker and outlined with black permanent marker.  The dots on the portraits represent the printing process the comic books were created with.  Lichtenstein chose this technique as an important element for his Pop Art Portraits.
