Kindergarten discovered the element of art TEXTURE by pressing different objects into clay.  They also explored creating textures by rubbing crayons on paper with texture plates.  Texture is the way something feels or the way it appears to feel.  Texture is an important element for creating art! Students found textures on the bottom of their shoes and pressed their shoe onto a bead of clay to make a texture print.  The soft clay was pressed into a pendant shape in the process of creating the print.  The pendants were bisque (clay that is fired the first time) fired in the kiln. After the pendants were fired, students painted the pendants with black paint.  Gold paint was applied gently with a sponge brush on top of the black paint to bring out the texture of their shoe prints.
