Tiger Lily Volume Drawing

Students worked on creating volume through shading tiger lilies with three different shades of markers.  First, they blocked in the shape of the petals with the lightest flower color.  Then they used the darkest flower petal color to draw and color the shadow areas.  Lastly, they added in the middle tone color to create a three-dimensional flower.  Details were added with a dark, fine tipped marker.  They used the same process of working from light to dark to create the leaves and stems.  Throughout the drawing process students looked at the negative space of the background to inform the shapes they created as well as the positive space of the flowers, stems, and leaves.
