JH-Process Art- Abstract Squeegee Painting

Students use acrylic paint and a small squeegee to scrape paint over the surface of cold press paper. This is the first stage of this project. Students will be choosing how to manipulate the painting and add designs and color to areas in the next part of this project. Students created 1-3 different paintings and chose one of those for the next step of the assignment that included adding designs, overlays of colored pencil in areas and lines with various mediums to create small areas of interest as well as helping define created areas made by the overlapping paint scrapes.  Making the choices of color and pushing themselves to continue to modify that artwork in an effort to improve upon the complete composition. Thoughtful use of Color Theory, Line Design, Balance and Value were talked about, demonstrated and required as visual evidence in their artwork for the final grade. Process Art- Process art is an artistic movement where the act of making the artwork and learning during that time is emphasized more than the artwork itself.  It is designed to allow them to experience the artistic medium and experiment without fear of the end result.  To help them feel free to take artistic chances- CREATIVITY TAKES COURAGE. Students used one class period to create a new painting using squeegee/scrape method with three colors of their choice, mixing paint to get the colors they desired prior to applying it.  The choice of continuing to add to their artwork was given using acrylic p
