Students selected a shoe photo to draw freehand. Next, we learned how to break a photo into "bite size pieces" (contour outlines) for sketching. We created value with a value scale, 4B, HB and 2H pencils. Students used guidelines to create a drawing with more accurate proportions. We relied heavily on the "quick eyes" strategy for discovering where lines need to be placed or moved.
