The 5th grade students have been hard at work exploring the fascinating world of optical art, or OP-ART for short. They've been learning all about how to use elements of design like value - the lightness or darkness of colors - to create some really eye-catching 3-D effects. For this project, the students put their new skills to work by crafting these awesome cone pictures. They started with a flat sheet of paper, but by carefully shading parts of the cones darker and adding bright highlights to other areas, they were able to trick our eyes into seeing these cones pop right off the page! It takes a lot of patience and attention to detail to get the shading just right for that convincing 3-D look. I'm really impressed with the artistic talent these students have developed and how creative they got with designing their own unique cones. Make sure you take a close look at each one - I bet you'll be amazed at how realistic they seem! The kids should feel very proud of their hard work on this challenging OP-ART project. It's exciting to see young artists starting to master advanced techniques like shading and highlights at such an early age. I can't wait to see what other cool creations they come up with as they keep exploring the super fun world of art!
