Art has always been an important aspect to my life. As early as I can remember, I was drawing Lion King characters at the age of five. By the time I got to Middle School, my interest in both Art and English developed greatly. I can still remember the art teacher that encouraged my artistic development in eighth grade. After two exchange trips to Kanon-ji, Japan, during the summer of my eighth grade year as well as my junior year, I knew I wanted to be an educator. My path was laid out for me when I was acce ... read morepted my junior year of high school into Renaissance School of the Arts in Appleton, WI, a charter school within Appleton West High School. I was able to continue developing my artistic skills while taking part in opportunities to teach. I partook in a program called "Teaching Shakespeare Across the World," in which a group of about 10 students developed lesson plans based on Shakespeare's theater works and taught to neighboring schools from kindergarten to seventh grade.
I spent my first years of schooling at UW-Fox before transferring to UW-Oshkosh in 2010. I graduated UW-Oshkosh with a Bachelors in Fine Arts and a minor in Art History. During my experience of college, I got to participate in groups such as the Education Club at UW-Fox, which granted us self-initiated practicum hours in low income urban and rural schools, art clubs, self-initiated teaching experience for the elderly, and tutoring other college students in art history.
Before graduation, I student taught at the elementary level at Jefferson and Columbus Elementary in Appleton as well as charter schools - Appleton Bilingual School and Fox River Academy. My high school student teaching took place at the nationally renowned Kimberly High School.
In the fall of 2014, I began my teaching career at Bonduel Elementary and Middle School where I taught art from kindergarten to 7th grade. I also was the facilitator of the Gifted and Talented program, which not only included evaluation and induction of students into the program, but also facilitating a weekly after-school enrichment program for students within the program. It was at Bonduel that I was also trained in the Lego WeDo Robotics program, which I taught in the form of a summer school class in the summer of 2015.
In the fall of 2015, I began my teaching career within the Green Bay Area Public School system at Baird Elementary, where I continue to teach. I can only hope that my passion and love for the arts transfer to each and every student.
