Meet Stephanie Bailly

Biography
My name is Mrs. Bailly. I'm a NY native, but I have lived in Southeast Louisiana for a few years now. I've always dreamed of teaching art, but never thought it possible. In college, I studied Childhood Education and received my Bachelor of Science degree from the SUNY system. I became certified in NY, NC, and LA, and currently maintain my LA teaching license. Before I taught art, I was a 1st and 4th grade teacher in LA and NC. About 4 years ago, I became certified in Art Ed. Art is my favorite because we can access so much knowledge about the world through art!
Outside of school, I create, show and sell my art and art ed resources. I specialize in pen and ink work, but I do frequently draw and paint, as well as dabble in nature photography. I love being with my family-including my husband, daughter and dog! I do yoga, cook, read, and work in the garden. I also love to bike, box and (roller)blade.
I teach to build on the skills that students currently have, to help them improve their motor development, thinking/decision making/problem solving skills, as well as their confidence in their own creativity and abilities. I allow the students much artistic freedom in order to develop this knowledge, but challenge them to explore the medium within the guidelines of each assignment.
In the art room, we value "process" over "product". This means that our projects may not *always* look like something recognizable, but I guarantee that each of our budding artists have a story to tell about their artwork!
This year, we are focusing on a different culture every month. We are being exposed to geography, cultural traditions and heritage, history, geometry, and science through our study of art in other cultures. This is in addition to learning all about the Elements of Art, and learning social/character ed skills while working with others in class.
"Most people never get to meet their favorite artists... I TEACH MINE!"
