1st through 5th grades drew flowers by repeating a line or shape around a center point. Students were encouraged to fill the space of their paper by drawing large and spreading the flowers up until they felt the space was used in a balanced composition. Each student was allowed to select their background color and then were challenged to paint the flowers using the opposite analogous colors to the background.
