Monet Inspired Landscape Paintings: 5th Grade Term 1

Students created a landscape painting inspired by the impressionist style of artist Claude Monet. Monet was known as the founder of Impressionism which is a style of painting that used brighter colors and looser brush strokes. He focused on the use of shadow and light in his paintings, many of which were landscapes. Students could select cityscape, seascape, desert scape, mountainscape or midwest landscape for their paintings on canvas. Experimentation with color, color mixing and use of brush strokes was explored along with including a foreground, middle ground and background.
