Abstract Landscape

For our Abstract Landscape project, we studied the art of contemporary artists Dorine van der Ploeg (Netherlands) and Rachael Cassiani (United States) for collage and paint examples. We also studied the works of contemporary aerial photographer Tom Hegen (Germany) for examples of birds-eye-views and the works of Faith Ringgold (American) and Alighiero Boetti (Italian) for quilting examples. Students selected a landscape photograph (includes cityscapes, seascapes, mountain-scapes, etc.) and then created abstract landscapes in their choice of collage and acrylic paint or with recycled fabrics.
