5th Grade Sphere Op Art

Op Art is a style of art that creates an optical illusion. There are many form of optical illusions. For example, you may know of the optical illusion of a vase or two faces. Some illusions have to do with color, some with lines and some with space. Our illusion changes a flat shape to a three dimensional looking form. Curved lines on our shapes create an illusion of space. Shading and highlighting adds another dimension to our forms. Students created a checkerboard pattern that stretched over their forms, adding to the illusion of depth. Notice how some of the patterns seem to stretch over the forms while others lay in a flat grid. Color choices ranged from calm, subtle hues to bright, vivid hues, depending on our personal choice or the mood we wanted to project.
