After practicing shading values on abstract blobs, we applied that technique to monochromatic portraits. We discussed Tim Burton and how his art style developed from a young age. Students were taught how to map out the different features of the face and used charcoal to shade. We challenged ourselves to use different pressure to create 3 or more values within our portraits.
