3rd graders revisited the element of art, "Shape" through the sun printing process. Day 1, we watched a video that gave students the kid level of science behind Cyanotype printing. Then flat items from nature like leafs, berries, pine needles were gathered. On days 2 and 3, students took turns printing their arranged organic shapes. The last days of the project we put texture back onto the shapes by crayon rubbing the leaf veins or outlining the organic shapes with metallic markers. This was inspired the style and process of Colorado botanical artist Wendy Mitchell from Salida. Students really loved this process!
