Hand control is key when working with art and what better way to practice this than to start with something as simple as a line!
The 4th graders practiced drawing straight lines slowly and brainstorming their ideas before moving on to their project. It was not easy, as the students had to figure out how to draw a contour line outline of their object, not only once, but a second time in a smaller form. From there they had the choice of free handing or using a ruler to draw straight, parallel lines. In the space where the the objects intersect, the students added cross hatching to help emphasize and darken the value in that area. Finally, the 4th grade cut their pictures out, trying their best to stay parallel from the contour line and glued it to black paper.
Many steps + Hard work + Patience= A great turn out!
