4th Grade-Ornate Architecture
Within this unit, students learned about St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russia, along with other impressive architectural examples of different cultures from around the world-the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, ancient ruins, etc. St. Basil’s Cathedral is a source of inspiration for many artists around the world and it’s no wonder, the spires, onion domes and bulbous columns are great fun to draw! Students designed their own building inspired by the complex and interesting architectural forms we explored in class. Students focused on creating the illusion of depth and space within their 2D artwork by overlapping the columns and details of their building. High contrast was also created by the juxtaposition of black and white patterned buildings against the watercolored background.
