4- Wayne Thiebaud inspired scented cake slice

We learned about North California Artist Wayne Thiebaud and his love of painting desserts. Students created a cardboard armature for their cake or pie slice and then "frosted" the cake using a mixture of lightweight wall spackle and acrylic paint. Once the "frosting" dried, students made a sketch of their cake or pie slice and painted the slice using acrylic paint. After painting they were able to decorate the slice using drip (paint and glue), icing (spackle and paint), sprinkles (art supplies not food!) and a cherry. Finally, they chose a scent for their masterpiece and added a few drops of essential oil to make their slices scented. I added a glossy sealant for the parts of the slice that should be glossy for extra realism.
