1st Grade Snow Globe Watercolor Painting

Students learned about creating a landscape with a foreground, mid-ground, and background. They learned how to draw winter woodland creatures ( deer, winter rabbit, squirrel, etc.) using guidelines and guide shapes. They created their own compositions with animals, trees, mountains, etc. They learned how to paint a cool watercolor "wash" by adding subtle shadow but leaving a lot of it white to represent snow. They filled in the details with watercolor pencils and blended them with brushes and water. They cut out their snow globes, pasted them onto a construction paper background, and finished by drawing some decorative snowflakes around the border with white charcoal pencils.
