I love the thick, strong brush strokes in this colorful painting. The paint looks like it was laid on heavily and the colors are very bold and bright. I like the abstract flowers and vase together with the visible brush strokes in the background. All together it reminds me of a painting by a famous artist that I would see in an art museum. A very interesting and different style than your other artwork. Very cool!

Oh. I like this! Very bold. Strong. Definitely leaves an impression. (Pun intended.) A great mix of colors. The orangey background is what excites me the most. I can imagine Lily concentrating intensely and using bold strokes of her brush as she created this work of art. Well done!

Because this is one of our favorites, I just bought a magnet of it which is now on our fridge!

This butterfly reminds me of stained glass! It looks very delicate, just like butterflies are. And the use of symmetry was perfect for this project because the butterfly colors and patterns are symmetrical. I enjoyed all of the different colors and designs in the different sections on the wings and how the opposite wing was an opposite image. I could easily imagine it flapping its wings!

This piece of art by Lily leaves me with a mixed feeling. The heart reminds me of an old, patchwork pillow that has been used for so long that it now has stains and spots on it. It was a favorite because of its many different designs and patterns but over the years has picked up these extra marks on it. And interestingly, the background shows that because it was so loved, it also picked up special powers! Now it sends off electric energy that radiates out from the pillow to let the person near it know they are loved, just like the pillow has been loved! <3

I like the variety of colors, thicknesses, and lengths of the dashes surrounding the big, central, bold, rosy square in this piece. They keep it interesting as they make their way around the center by their combination of repetition and variety. And the big center square provides a nice solid anchor for the dashes to work around.

I like these glass vases. I don't know if they were made of tissue paper or painted with water colors but they look very transparent. Their colored surfaces and variety of designs also look translucent, so the effect is very well done. I also like the matching patterns around them which adds to the look of shadows or reflections through the transparent glass. A unique and interesting, different artwork.

Using dot shapes for the colors autumn leaves really gives them motion! They look small and I can picture them moving, falling, and landing in the ground because of their small shapes and that there are so many of them. I also love the mix of the bright yellow, red, and orange. A gorgeous fall tree, my favorite time of year!

What fun Indian Corn! Instead of the usual red, orange, and yellow colors I enjoyed all of these pretty pastels! Their bright yellow leaves are cheerful as are all of the variety of flowers surrounding them. A bright and happy picture. ( =

These designed pumpkins are a fun variation from the traditional orange ones. I like their two different plaid patterns as well as their unique faces and bow tie. I also got a kick out of the inside of their cut stems matching the plaid patterns of their surfaces!

The 3 different techniques to paint the 3 Jack-o-Lanterns is interesting. The top one looks like traditional painting. The bottom left one looks like something was drawn on the surface before painting to keep the paint from sticking at the face and the right one looks like the paint was scratched off where the face is. I'm probably guessing totally wrong! But some different techniques were used. Whatever they were, it's fun to see the different results. I also like their different paper leaves and stem added. Nice variety.

This is an interesting study in patterns and designs within shapes - a heart and a rectangle. I like how you created distinct sections within the heart and then made very different shapes, designs, and colors within each section. You then sectioned off the rectangle outside of the heart with lines radiating from the heart and then made different linear shapes within those sections. This is a real study in shapes, designs, and colors!

These look like positive and negative images of each other. They also look like a black cat and a white cat that are friends. I like their pointy ears and very similar happy faces. It's interesting that you gave them both faces but chose to only color in the white surrounding spaces since the black spaces would have been very hard to see. The picture makes me smile!
- Grandma on March 12, 2025

This is one of my favorite drawings you have made. I love red foxes, and this one is very handsome sitting alone in the snowy woods with his tail wrapped around him for warmth. I also like birch trees and the black lines of the trees and the fox are a great contrast to the softer colors of the fox, background, and shadows. The large white foreground is a good contrast that makes it feel cold and like the fox is in a wide open space. We have a copy of this picture on our refrigerator and I love looking at it <3

This is a very cheerful drawing! I like the different candy and designs on the gingerbread house, from the candy canes to the gum drops to the snow on the roof to the smoke coming out of the chimney. Even the trees next to the house with their lolly pop tops are fun connected to the house by the snow border and the irregularly shaped path stones. It has a happy, whimsical feeling!

I like this cute Penguin! He looks cozy dressed up in his warm, stripped hat and scarf. And the swirls behind him look like he just got in from a snow storm. His cute face, little wings, shaded face and tummy, and cool shaped feet all make him adorable!
- Grandma on January 25, 2025
I really like this Warm Penguin. A friendly looking penguin. Love his/her hat & scarf. Love its overall size as it fills the page nicely. Not too big, not too small, just right. That the picture is framed is a nice touch. The swirly colorful background makes the picture pop. I assume the background is the "controlled brush strokes" mentioned in the artwork's description. That bit of blue on the left side of the penguin's face and body projects a little feeling of motion like from a light breeze and has a slight chilling effect. I am so happy that Lily likes art so much and that she can share it with all of us. Very nice job on this project.

I really like this picture. It has great depth of field - the 2 rows of trees with the second row are smaller, then the pink trees are larger but still look distant, each row looking farther away. Also the white, then light blue snow provide distance and the various colored lines on the dark blue background look to me like rows of treetops farther and farther back. It all provides a lot of different, further distances very effectively! And the trees in front have interesting, unique patterns. But I really love their colors. They change so gradually into lots of different subtle, beautiful shades, and they shine brightly which makes me think they are reflecting the northern lights! A very complex, wonderful piece of artwork, Lily!

How festive! It looks 3D. I think it reflects the feel of the Northern Lights very well. I really like the detail and the differences between the trees. A great subject to pick this year since there was so much information about how the Northern Lights were visible this year in many locations that they normally are not. I like it very much. Well done!

I like this leaf made out of different materials and creating different feelings. Overall it reminds me of a leaf floating on water. The multi-colored designs and various patterns of the leaf are very interesting. Some parts look like entire leaf patterns, others more abstract. And the various colors compliment each other and remind me of fall. The thick ribs on top create a contrast to the delicate pattern below. And the blue and purple lines which look like chalk or crayon around the edge are what me think of water. It's a very interesting, complex creation.

I would think this was a fun technique to do. The one with the white spiderweb looks like it's on top of a streaky watercolor background, like it's outside and maybe it's been raining. The one in the right with the black spiderweb reminds me of a stained glass window with rich, distinct color sections. Two very different looks from the same technique!

I like how symetrical this artwork is well as the variety of shapes and colors. It's very 3 dimensional and fun! The big outside curls add whimsy!

As soon as I saw this artwork I immediately thought it looked like a big, angry crayon. Then I read the description that it was a giant crayon come to life! as well as all of the techniques you used. Cool! The teeth, eyes, and eye brows as well as their slight angles give it a very angry and scary look. The special purple, green, and red colors you mixed also give it an extra rough look. And the rough striped lines add to this feeling. The different painting, color mixing, cutting, and gluing techniques also give him a wilder look. All of these effects go well together to create a total feeling. Well done! Eeek!
- Grandma on October 30, 2024

I enjoy the unusual variety of Jack-o-Lanterns. They each have different shapes, expressions, colors, and feelings. The pinkish-purple one is quite unusual and the wide, rectangular shape and dual stems that look like horns go well with it's face! The center one has a cool silvery green color that matches it's more delicate feminine face. And the round orange one while more conventional is still unique with it's horizontal stripes and different stem. I also enjoy all of the stars in the sky, is that the moon to the left? and the ragged 3-D grass in the forground adds a dramatic feeling to the night. Fun different take on a Halloween Jack-o-Lantern scene! Love it!
- Grandma on October 23, 2024

It looks like you went a little loopy, Lily! Hee, hee. I like the bright colors, variety of patterns on the strips, and how they weave in and under each other. Very 3 dimensional.

I love this cheerful alligator. His big round eye, pointy teeth, toes, spikes along his back, and upturned noise look very much like the one we saw at the zoo. Yet he looks more cheerful and awake! The portions are perfect and I enjoy the patterns you made in his skin and the water and his bright colors. He looked even more amazing when we saw your artwork in person! Really impressive and fun!

Lily's final art project from Kindergarten. She free hand drew this and painted it. Then she used metal pattern plates under and rubbed crayons to get the patterns

Wow! I had no idea your are such a talented artoonist, Lily!!! These drawings are great and there is so much variety among them. Some are scary. The person(?) with the unicorn horn looks silly and very cleverly designed. And the pig, chicken, and shark are realistic looking but have additions of comical whimsy to them that make them so much fun! I am very impressed by how great they all are! Well done!

The colors in this piece create a number of different feelings. The colors inside of the heart looks like sparklings jewels! The dots on the outside create a nice, different constrasting style, And the center orange heart centers the piece and makes your artist's name stand out. Very lovely<3

I like this 3 dimensional, multimedia artwork of a rainbow, clouds, and rain, showing all of the weather that come together to create a beautiful rainbow!
- Grandma on June 2, 2024

Wow! This cloud has all kind of effects and emotions! It looks like it can produce swirling wind, wavy windy weather, weather that makes you feel lovely, thunder, and more! All from a cloud!

I like the bright colors on this Artist's Palette. And some of the paint swatches look like animals have emerged to come to life out of the paints and become 3 dimentiona animals - cool!
- Grandma on June 2, 2024

Wow! This looks like a complex, 3D artwork about the complete life cycle of a butterfly. ?? I see the egg, caterpillar, cocoon, and butterfly all on the leaf that the first 3 would have been on until the butterfly emerged! That each is separate, with different materials and thicknesses, and on top of the leaf makes them look even more life like. Very pretty and very cool!
- Grandma on May 18, 2024

I like the picture of your happy girl with all of the great words around her! It sounds like she would be a nice person to know. It also sounds like you! And I love the pastel colored background! It looks like it might have been done with watercolor paints. Very pretty, cheerful, and peaceful.
- Grandma on May 18, 2024

This piece looks 3 dimensional, maybe the planet and spaceship were done separately and added on top of each other? The spaceship is very cool and I love the colors and splatter look of the planet. The black sky really makes the rest of the picture stand out and I like the stars and constellations. Cool picture!
- Grandma on April 24, 2024
I really like this new piece of artwork. The rocket ship is so nicely centered and it being on an angle makes me feel like it's moving. The overall color scheme is very appealing. I will be looking forward to hearing Lily tell us how it was made as it looks to be layered in some way. I like the astrological decorations that are around the edges.
- Grandpa on April 24, 2024

Very cool and complex art project! I'm glad your mom explained to us how you started with a solid piece of clay that you molded and carved all of these coils and shapes into. It looks like it was hard to do. I love how well shaped the coils and heart especially are shaped. I also like the bright colors and the pipe cleaner holder with its matching pattern of beads. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person!

I am amazed by how great this picture is! The cheerful snowman is so well drawn with interesting variations in the thickness of lines and shapes, markers and crayons, and interesting details. And it's so finely cut out and put on top of the background which gives it a 3D look. The variety of sizes, shapes, and colors of the swirls in the background give a feeling of the snowstorm that provided the snow. I love it!
- Grandma on January 24, 2024

I love the Owl's big round eyes! The large black circle pupils are staring right at me - fun! And the zig-zag lines around the circle edges are fun, too! His bright orange beak pops out of the picture, and the different material used to make the yellow, red, and brown colors make him even more interesting.
- Grandma on January 4, 2024

I really like the bird's eye view! It's a fun new way to look at the snowman! And the cut out layers on top of each other really give the snowman a 3D look. I like his happy face and the smeared blue lines around each ball of snow. It looks like the snow is starting to melt a little! The light blue and pink background also reminds me of melting. Its a very pretty and fun picture!

What a happy snowman, or should I say snowwoman with all the jewels. It makes me smile! I love the necklace, big eyes, 2 big colorful buttons, and the variety of jewels in the main snowball. A fun and different kind of snowman/woman! ?

This looks like 2 Poppy flowers. The one in the left looks like it's in full bloom, big and with a very full center. The one on the right looks like it's just starting to open up and will probably be in full bloom after the other one is finished. That is how flowers often bloom. ??

What a fun way to create your name! I love that you made the upper and lower case letters the right size and heights even with the paper pieces - that must have been hard to do. And such pretty colors. I love it! ??

This is a very cute Jill-o-Lantern, hee, hee. She's obviously a girl with her pretty eyelashes and rosey cheeks. That's why I didn't call her a Jack-o-Lantern. And you did a great job giving her a pumpkin mouth with her pumpkin teeth. ??
- Grandma on December 11, 2023

Lily - I can't wait to look at this picture with you! I want to ask you why you wrote Mom and Dad on the 2 wings? I like they way you colored the turkey and drew the pumpkins, cloud, and the sky. What are the brown things - I'm guessing something growing? Looking forward to talking about this picture with you. ??

This picture takes a relatively simple art project - a bare tree and tissue paper squares - and makes it fun. The way you spread out the squares and colors on the tree's branches looks very nice and interesting. And the fact that you placed some on the ground makes it looks like they really are leaves that are changing colors and some have fallen off. The yellow ones apparently fall off first. Well done. ? ?? ??
- Grandma on December 11, 2023

The face in the middle is SO CUTE AND HAPPY it makes me smile! I love her eyelashes, tiny nose, happy mouth, and bow on her headband! And the pastel colors on her face look so pretty together. The bows and hearts on the pumpkin continue to surround her with happiness! A totally lovely work of art! ??

This picture made me think. At first the shapes, stems on top, and round shapes made me think of apples. But then they reminded me of yarn balls with their swirls! Then the brown dots on the yellow and green ones made me think of plates of food. So I like that this picture can be seen as lots of different things!
- Grandma on December 11, 2023

I am guessing that this artwork was printed with paint and real leaves? I enjoy that the one on the left looks very clear, but that others are more or less blurry or streaky. It makes it look like they are moving or the wind is blowing them. The variety of colors also makes them look like they have movement. And that they are mostly brown together with the feeling of movement and wind makes me think of Fall.

This cute Owl looks like a curious Owl with wide open eyes and a large beak. It also looks friendly with curly toes rather than sharp claws and lots of pretty flowers on its chest rather than the usual feathers! ?? The bent paper 3D shape in bright yellow goes perfectly with the friendly feeling I get from this cute Owl!
- Grandma on December 11, 2023

The folded paper is very cute! It's face looks happy with its big owl eyes and pointed beak, and I love his feet and claws. But most of all I love that his chest feathers are made up of hearts! ??

I like that Lily has created artwork based on another culture other than her own and learned something about their traditions. The way the base for the candle is decorated is very pretty. And I like the beautiful outdoor scene on the bag with the happy girl with the heart. ?

I like this piece very much. It took a lot of work to tear the paper into bits and form the letters. The letters are lined up very well. And one of the letters is my favorite color! I really like the look of this artwork very much. Grandpa

I like the pop of color from these 2 Poppies! Do you like the pun I made in describing them? The one on the left looks like it's fully open and the black inside is very full, too. The one on the right looks like its just starting to open. I like the difference in their sizes and the stages of how big they are.

I like your bowel of fruit, Lily! It looks to me like a bowl of different colored apples, which do come in all the colors you used. ?? And I love how they look shiny just like apples can if you wash them and then give them a good rubbing with a dish towel! Did you print them with paint? I also like the design you drew on the cut out paper fruit bowl. It adds more interest and contrast to the picture. Even the wrinkly background of a different material and texture adds yet another interesting element. So the picture has lots of variety to it. Very nice job! ?

I look forward to hearing you tell Grandma & me how you used apples in marking this colorful piece of art. The bright colors are very striking. Grandpa

This makes me wonder how the red Poppy was painted! It looks like the paint was put on in several different layers and is in several slightly different colors. It makes it look like it's moving in the wind.

Very delicate looking. The pastel colors blended with the browns and blacks make me think of Fall when the pretty autumn colors come out ?? , then start to turn dark as the leaves dry up and fall. Interesting and pretty at the same time.

What an interesting piece of art. It is very different from your other projects. The green at the bottom looks like it was cut, that it's sticking out, it was then drawn on with crayon, and is sticking out forward. The pumpkin is very bright and looks like it has many eyes on it. And the top background is totally different. The wide blue and red lines as well as the swirly lines look like they're set further back. It gives the whole picture the feeling that it's in 3D, with the 3 sections set at different distances away and making it feel more sophisticated. This picture gives me a different feeling looking at it.
