Even when you don't care, you're still an artist. Stop trying to avoiding it and lean into it. Get over your blocks and do the assignments and when you do, do the assignments, put yourself into it. You can't escape destiny.
I's amazing how well you made her look solid and three dimensional. You manage to create a real sense of form with just two colors and a minimum of shading. It just reinforces my belief that you have a tremendous amount of instinct and perceptual awareness. I'm curious about where you started and whether you drew this whole thing pretty much in one stretch or if you took breaks or had any interruptions, because there does seem to be a change in proportions between the arms, torso and head and the hips and legs. Remember to continue to compare lengths, sizes, spaces and relationships the whole time you're drawing, even if you don't use a "basic unit."
Funny how you can accidentally create something meaningful, intriguing and visually interesting even when you're deliberately trying to demonstrate your contempt for the class. Maybe you're a DaDaist- they were the "anti-Art" movement.
Such beautiful hair! Your placement of facial features is pretty good, but I'm worried that your proportions are a bit small compared to the whole face and the hair. I can't tell if that's incidental or accidental. It could be because you focused so much on the hair, because you aren't comfortable having to draw yourself, or because of the influence of the art styles you like. Be that as it may, your sense of form and volume on the chin and neck and head- not just on the hair are outstanding. I know I compliment you a lot, but its because I want to encourage you to stick with art, it's not just to make you feel good. Keep it up. Thank you for not giving up so far. Great job overall.
Please tell me what you need from an Art teacher or a "drawing-coach" or a mentor (if you're open to it). Ever see Disney's Hercules? You're like Hercules, with this god like gift/talent and I'm just Phil (Danny DeVito) the satyr (Chiron in Greek mythology ) waiting to help you hone and develop it, but I can't help you if you won''t let me. Thank you for at least trying to do this assignment. Ever here the phrase "go big or go home?" Some kids prefer to draw small because they feel like they can control it better. You may surprise yourself by what you can do when you draw bigger. This is an excellent start to a skeleton drawing. Imagine if you'd worked all period, all week. You could blow people away. Hydra would be nothing to you, "Herc!" Not even Hades himself could stand up to you.
Your observation and perceptual skills are really gettin good. Some of what this drawing shows is how you're not just observing/perceiving the the values, but shapes, spaces, and facets (planes/surfaces) too. That's a real key to drawing and painting realistically. This is really dramatic but what's especially good are the accuracy of your proportions. Truly. You may think I'm just trying to be a supportive teacher by giving you phony compliments, but seriously- you are very talented. Just imagine if you'd stuck with it even when you started getting bored? If you go ahead and spend some more time to finish this, it could really contend at the Conference Art Show in March, it could win you something, which would be a big deal as a freshman. Think about it.
