Now this picture is really great! Water, reflections and ripples are fun to study and imagine how to represent in a 2-D format. Bubbles and droplets are a good idea for a picture. Well done! It looks like you started with a dark gray or black paper. Did you have a colored backdrop or colored lights to see how the bubbles reflected things around them. We should try this idea next time you are with us. You might even see a reflection of yourself in one of the bubbles. PaPa & MiMi

WOW! You told us you were working on a 3-D drawing in art and tried to imagine what it would be. Nicely done! And another artist from history that we didn’t know about until now. Keep it up! This idea might be useful on the city-map drawings we have been doing to create the illusion of looking down from a vantage point above. Papa & MiMi

We did not know about “Notan” but see the positive-negative idea very clearly with your untitled cut-out. Very interesting! I saw something there as I first looked at your picture and thought it was an owl, winking at me. We should do some cut-outs when you are here. Explore a few more ideas. Thanks for sharing your artwork!

Samantha, We should discuss this one again (from last year). It is especially fun to see the colorful patterns across the fluid shape, both as a cut-out overall and as a 3D sculpture. Mimi & PaPa

Samantha, Your Rooster inspired by Pablo Picasso is wonderful! We love the overall textures and patterns on his wing, body and tail. He is one proud rooster. Strutting around on his bright orange feet! Keep drawing! We’ll keep paper ready at the dining room table. Mimi & PaPa

You told us about your latest art project, a pinch pot, and here it is! We love it! The cactus looks very real and is so nice in the pot. We look forward to hearing more about how you made the shapes and added the colors.

Samantha, This cake picture is very fun! Wayne Thiebaud is one of my favorite artists. His cakes, ice cream cones and other paintings are quite memorable. Your picture shares the fun use of colors and expressive enthusiasm. Keep it up! This gives me another thought about drawings we can do together. PaPa & MiMi

Samantha, this painting makes me think about the last couple of very cold nights with very full moons! I love the twinkling stars, the halo sky around the moon and wind-blown snow. I assume it is a Minnesota night because the snowman has a charming smile.

This is quite a cast of characters! A very interesting bunch of smiley faces, mostly. Not sure about the blue guy with scary teeth but it may be happy too. Very nice eyes and smiles! We look forward to having you tell the story of their creation. MiMi & PaPa

Very interesting explorations into emotions. We need to look further into these ideas with more self portraiture and directed drawings! Thank you for sharing! Papa
