I graduated from Purdue University in May 2001 with degrees in Art Education and Fine Arts. I began my teaching career in Aug. 2001 at Illinois Park Elementary in Elgin, IL were I taught for just one year. Since then I have been teaching 1st - 8th grade Art at St. Gilbert School in Grayslake, IL.
In addition to teaching my regular art classes I also host 5th - 8th grade Art Club and offer after school Art Plus courses for K-2nd, 3rd-5th, and 5th-8th grade.
The Arch. of Chicago does not yet have a set curriculum/curr. guide for the arts so I do my best to create my own curriculum each year that will meet the state and national standards. I have tried out several year long themes around which to develop my curriculum. In years past I have tried "Art World Tour" (centering the curriculum around different world cultures), "Art Throughout History" (centering the curriculum around periods of art history), and "Meet the Artist" (centering the curriculum around a variety of artists from different cultures and periods of time). This year I have decided to mesh all of these themes together and include more about art careers in an attempt to provide a better, more well rounded, art education for my students.

I would also like to thank all of the other teachers who publish and share their project ideas and lessons through Artsonia. You all come up with the most incredible ideas; I hope you don't mind that I have borrowed so many.
