About me: I have the pleasure of being the Visual Arts Specialist for the students of Mills Lawn School. I teach everyone, grades K through 6, and have done so for 29 years. Yellow Springs is a uniquely inspiring and wonderfully artistic place in which to teach. I know that I am blessed to be a part of such a supportive and creative community. Our school is widely diverse, and our young artists are full of enthusiasm and a love of the arts.
I received my Bachelor's Degree from The Ohio State Univers ... read moreity, where I studied art education. After several years of teaching at Mills Lawn, I completed my Master's in Art Education from Wright State University, which included many transferred credits from Miami University's Craft Summer Workshops. I have presented at various conferences, including the National Art Education Association conference in Denver, CO, Ohio Art Education Association conventions, and the REACH across Dayton conference. I have been published in Scholastic's Art magazine, and was a contributing author in a publication sponsored by Culture Works on local artist and internationally recognized artist, Bing Davis. In addition, I was interviewed for a PBS documentary for ThinkTV on Bing, as well.
Some history: I have enjoyed working with various artists who have visited Mills Lawn as a part of our many residencies over the years. Favorites include Rob Gartzka, Susan Gallagher, Joan Damankos, Jo McLaughlin, and the esteemed Willis "Bing" Davis.
In addition to my position as art teacher, I have helped to produce and direct many of our all-school musicals, also choreographing dance numbers including, "You Can't Stop the Beat," for our production MLS ON BROADWAY, and "Interplanet Janet," from Mills Lawn's SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK. I also produced and directed our WMLS daily news broadcast for several years.
Artsonia provides a wonderful way for me to showcase the fabulous visual work created by young artists at Mills Lawn.
