Sara Teasley
Hi! My name is Sara Teasley, and I've been an art educator for over 20 years. I have taught art in colleges, private and public elementary and middle schools, and in museum settings. Since 2019, I have been teaching at Micanopy Area Cooperative School. At the very heart of my work are the students. I love them tremendously and am driven to provide them with authentic artmaking experiences. As their studio guide, I provide skill-builders, tutorials and resources. I cheer them on and step in with support and ... read moreguidance when needed. I believe art education- like art- is a work in progress. Like artwork, my curriculum continues to be refined. It grows each year, right along with the students. Since 2014, my art curriculum has integrated TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior), VTS (Visual Thinking Strategies), and the 8 Studio Habits of Mind (Observe, Envision, Reflect, Express, Develop Craft, Stretch & Explore, Engage & Persist, and Understand Art Worlds). If you are curious about this way of teaching and want to know more, I am always happy to elaborate on why I find the choice-art, TAB art studio model to be a crucial approach to art education today and why I believe that VTS should be something every student has a regular opportunity to practice. I can also direct you to loads of wonderful research and advocacy on these topics from celebrated leaders in art education. I can also offer different ways to discuss art with your young artist(s) and support their artistic growth at home!
