Gayle Sporn I have been teaching at The French-American School of New York since August 2000. I have my B.F.A and M.F.A in K-12 Art Education. I was an Advertising Art Director for 27 years prior to this position but I must say "Teaching" is a rewarding position in many ways. I believe young children must have the opportunity to express themselves not just by writing and speaking. Whether it be art, music, dance, theatre or sports. It makes one complete to see through other aspects of life. Art cross references to ... read more many things in our lives, which I try to teach through my interdisclipinary lessons. I bring in science, history, math, geography,and different cultures as much as possible into my units. We write, we create and critique our art starting from First grade! I am trying to teach to LOOK AT ART and find what each student enjoys in that piece of art making. We sometimes do not have the time to reflect on what we do from day to day. This is an important part of creating artwork. I have seen my students mature and graduate to college having a rich art background. This is a rewarding feeling that I gave them the basics to grow on. I only hope that through my teachings their eyes have broadened to enrich their lives. I ALWAYS TELL MY STUDENTS ART MAKES YOU SMART! Send compliment
