Mia McKitterick
My middle school art teacher was the most inspiring and encouraging adult in my life. She created a space where I felt welcome and safe. From the moment I walked into her art room, I knew that I wanted to be an art teacher when I grew up and give back those feelings of safety, encouragement, and love to others and she did for me. This same inspirational teacher had a pet rabbit that bounced around our feet while we created art, hence why I also have a classroom pet bunny! The students LOVE him and he loves ... read morethem, too!
This is my 6th year of teaching and with every day that passes, my heart fills with even more joy as my students grow creatively and emotionally. I truly believe that I have the best job in the world.
In this art room, we do not only create: we learn how to analyze artwork, use critical thinking skills to figure out deeper meanings behind artwork, and engage in self-reflection and peer critiques. Students also photograph all of their own work as a part of their art-making process and use this a chance to work on their photography skills and the digital manipulation of photos. Please enjoy our art gallery, as the students have worked very hard to create AND photograph these amazing pieces!
