I teach special education students with severe disabilities that keep them from participating in regular art classes. This is my 15th year teaching special needs students. We do a lot of hands on activities and art in our class room. They absolutely love it! i love seeing how happy they are when they realize they can do the same types of things as the other students.

Gloria Johnson

Gloria Johnson- is an Art Educator in Meridian, Ms.
Education: B.F.A.; M.Ed.
Gloria has degrees from both the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University.
She began her career as an Art Educator in 1976. She has taught art in the public school system; as well as, private lessons to students in Meridian and other areas of Mississippi. She has also done workshops for educators on various art techniques and teaching across the curriculum since she began her career as an art educato ... read morer 35 years ago. She has been involved in writing art curriculum in two school districts in MS.
In 2005, she began teaching as a Gifted Art & Gifted Education teacher at Magnolia Middle School and continued in the art program where she taught students in all the areas of her certifications with an emphasis on how the visual arts can be used to support all the academic areas.
Gloria serves as a Board member for the Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education.
She has served on the Meridian Arts Council and continues as an auxillary member.
Recently she was honored by the National Education Association with a spotlight article about her service as an educator in the fall of 2012.
Gloria is an advocate for Arts Education for all children in Meridian and in the state of Mississippi.

ALL student work displayed by art teacher Gloria Johnson from 2007 to the present on Artsonia is Art Exhibit work that has been showcased at the annual Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education ARTS Front and Center annual Forum at the MSU Riley Center in Meridian, MS and the Mississippi Children's Museum in Jackson, MS, Meridian annual Art in the Park, Magnolia Middle School Art Exhibit, Annual School Board Meeting, The Magnolia Student Art Gallery and Central Office Annual Student Art Display. Her students have received numerous art awards throughout her career as an educator.
