Hello, I’m Mrs. Mac the Art Teacher here at Jefferson Elementary. I have a lot of fun art activities planned for this year. First, let me tell you a little bit about my education and teaching background. I received my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree from Long Island University-C.W. Post Campus and my Master’s Degree in Art Education from the City University of New York-Queens College.
My first teaching experience was in East Harlem, NY at Amber Charter School and I taught there for 5 years. When I mov ... read moreed to New Jersey, I joined the team at Central Jersey Arts Charter School (CJACS) in Plainfield, NJ. For three years I was the lead teacher of the Arts Department where we had Art, Dance, Music and Theatre.
In January of 2016 , I joined the South Orange Maplewood Community at Marshall Elementary and taught art while Mrs. Fong was away on maternity leave. I was invited to join the Jefferson Team for September of 2016. I love it here! The music teacher and I joined forces immediately! We're a power house team for the arts. Go Jaguars!
Our art program at Jefferson is once a week for every class and your child will accomplish a great deal throughout the year. In that time, we’ll review the 7 elements of art, start investigating the 7 principles of design and practice original works of art with them in mind.
We study master artists and analyze works of art to see where the elements of art are used, why the artist chose to use them in that way, and how they impact the artwork. When discussing artwork, new art vocabulary will be introduced regularly and placed on the art word wall. Throughout the school year, your child will have access to many different art materials and learn proper techniques to manipulate them effectively. Most importantly, I want your child to have fun and be invested in their art! With that in mind, I tailor the curriculum so each child can reflect on themselves and the world they live in.
On Wednesday, May 23rd 2018 from 6-8pm we'll celebrate all of our hard work in the studio with an all inclusive art show.
*Please remember that art gets messy! And your child is a KID! Keep in mind which day your child has art and have them wear an outfit that may not be their favorite or one that already has paint on it.
Please don’t hesitate to email or call me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Eva McNally / Mrs. Mac Email: emcnally@somsd.k12.nj P: (973) 378-7696 X 5616
