I have been teaching art at Highland Park since 2008 and have learned much more from my students than I could ever possibly teach. My ultimate goal for students is to feel encouraged and enthusiastic about their achievements in life whether they are "good" at art or not. I am watching students discover a new found excitement for art because they know their finished work will be showcased for their friends and family to see. They enjoy scrolling through their friends' art, positively commenting as they go. During class, it opens up avenues for natural points of conversation about art -- it's relevance and meaning, the need for craftsmanship and organization, and finally, dialog about creativity. I hope that you will take the time to invest some extra energy and interest in your child's efforts by becoming a registered artist fan. Invite family members to join the Highland Park Arts conversation. Since creating this school's online gallery in October 2015 I have published nearly 850 works of art, we have 67 artist fans, and 95 students with at least three works of art in their portfolio already (December 2015). Remember: Every student matters; every moment counts.
