Kate Sakowski
Hello Bordentown families! My name is Kate Sakowski and I have been working at Peter Muschal Elementary School as the Art Teacher for the past 18 years, but starting this year, in an exciting new twist, I will be taking over the Art department at both Clara Barton Elementary School and MacFarland Intermediate School. I am really excited to start this new chapter in my career with ALL the students of Bordentown Regional School District.
The Arts has always held a special place in my heart. As a studen ... read moret it allowed to me decompress, challenge myself, and use creativity in a way that was different than my core classes. I relished any opportunity to apply art to book reports, shoe box dioramas, science projects, and presentations. Today, I try to challenge my students to make choices and decisions in their work to help them connect with their process and take ownership over their products. In my experience, scaffolding my curriculum to support student choice has not only encouraged students to take chances and experiment with their art so that their projects are unique and individual to them, but also has helped to build a growth mindset among the students as artists and an appreciation for the differences in project outcomes instead of a comparison of skills.
I invite you to visit our site often as your children's portfolios continue to grow and follow them to Bordentown regional Middle School and beyond.
