Heather Hanks
Hi! My name is Heather Hanks, and I am the JRK-4th grade & High School Art Teacher at New Covenant Academy. I absolutely love teaching Art here at NCA. Coming here has been a big blessing for my family since moving from Louisiana to Missouri. My husband, James, also teaches at NCA. He is a Bible Teacher at the Liberty Campus. We also have one daughter, Holly, who is now a freshman at Evangel University and signed as a catcher for their softball program. It is wonderful to be near to support her. My ... read morehusband and I have always been in ministry, pastoring or serving as chaplains while also teaching at Christian schools. This move was another step in following God's leading.
Honestly, ever since I was a little girl, I have loved art. I remember carrying around a pad of paper and pencil, drawing every chance I got. But my life totally changed when I was 13 and gave myself to Jesus. As I grew up, I knew God had called me to use every ability for Him. He led me to pursue degrees in Art, Missions and French.
I love teaching students who have a love for art like I did when I was little. But I also really enjoy the challenge of helping students who either think they are bad at art or who have never really enjoyed it. There is normally one project that gets them excited, that makes them smile. I love that. It is also my goal to not only teach them about Art, but to help them know the One who made them. This year our verse is, “You are God’s masterpiece.” Ephesians 2:10. We are not the artwork that He is frustrated with and throws away; we are His treasure, and are worth so much to Him.
Thank you for allowing me the honor of teaching your student at New Covenant Academy!
With love, Mrs. Heather
