Fiona Murphy
Fiona Murphy is an Irish artist who lived in Cuba for 12 years before moving to Washington, D.C., in 2008. Her artistic journey began in 1993 when she left Ireland for Florence, Italy, in search of art and inspiration, leading her to Brazil, Ecuador, and Cuba. She holds a B.A. in Visual Art from the Limerick School of Art and Design, a Higher Diploma in Interior Design and Interior Architecture from Limperts Academy of Design in Dublin, and an M.A. in Education from SUNY University, USA. Fiona discovered h ... read moreer passion for mural painting in northeast Brazil and further developed this medium while creating murals in Cuba. During her time in Havana, she served as Head of the Art Department at the International School of Havana, where she exhibited her work in solo exhibitions and alongside local artists. Additionally, she conducted seasonal workshops at the University of San Francisco, Quito. After moving to Washington in 2008, Fiona contributed to the Eatonville mural project, dedicated to African American writer Zora Neale Hurston. She taught art at Archbishop Carroll High School and Oyster-Adams Bilingual School before relocating to Brazil in 2012. Over her 12 years in Brazil, Fiona initiated, and designed the elementary art program at the School of the Nations in Brasília and later moved to the American School of Brasília, where she led the Art Department and deepened her focus on the International Baccalaureate Visual Arts program. In August 2024, Fiona joined the Brewster Madrid community, bringing with her a wealth of international teaching and artistic experience to inspire a new generation of young artists.
