Tara Gorris I graduated in May 2011 from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with certifications in both a major in K- 12 Visual Arts Education (LQ) with a 2-Dimensional Art Concentration, as well as a minor in English (BA). In 2010, I studied for a month in Florence, Italy where I was able to observe many historical and monumental art pieces, as well as create a variety of observational drawings of the architecture and sculptural work around parts of Italy. In 2011, I comple ... read moreted a 3-week teaching experience in Oaxaca, Mexico where I observed and taught at LaSalle, a private elementary bilingual school. In Oaxaca, I was able to incorporate strategies to introduce cooperative learning and classroom management techniques. Currently, I am teaching 8th Grade, and Art 1 and 2 high school classes, and AP Art History. At Black River, I am dedicated to create a conducive environment for learning and making art. I create a positive environment for students to feel free to express their emotions and their opinions. I encourage my students to put themselves in their art and to not be afraid to try new techniques or ideas. My goal as a teacher is to help students recognize that art is essential to life - it is everywhere you are. I hope that my students will appreciate the beauty and the possibilities of creativity.
