Lauren McKuin
With a style rooted in authenticity and curiosity, Lauren McKuin brings a unique blend of fine art expertise and educational passion to the classroom. A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Alternative Process Photography, where her work explored the harmony between nature, emotion, and human experience.
Lauren’s artistry has received recognition on both regional and international levels. Her photographic series Mor ... read morening Glories was selected for inclusion in the SCAD Permanent Collection, and she has exhibited in notable venues including the Oklahoma Governor’s Gallery (2019) and SCAD Lacoste Vernissage in France (2012), among others. Her work has also appeared in Surreal Beauty Magazine and multiple regional publications. Over the years, she has been honored with numerous awards, including the Scholastic Silver Key Award (2007), SCAD Artist Honors Scholarships (2010, 2011), and News Nation Hometown Hero (2022) and more. Lauren was a featured artist at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in both 2019 and 2022.
An avid advocate for the arts, Lauren has campaigned at the Oklahoma State Capitol for multiple years, promoting access to quality arts education for all students. She is a proud member of the National Art Education Foundation (NAEF), through which she continues to advance the conversation about creativity’s role in shaping confident, compassionate learners and thriving communities.
As an art educator at the Montessori Academy of Owasso, Lauren encourages students to view creativity as a pathway to understanding themselves and the world around them. Her teaching philosophy blends the Montessori approach with contemporary art practice- emphasizing exploration, independence, and joy in the creative process. Beyond the classroom, she has curated community exhibitions, organized youth art showcases, and developed collaborative art initiatives that connect students, families, and local artists.
Outside of her professional work, Lauren is a devoted wife and mother. She lives in Skiatook, Oklahoma, with her husband Seth, a retired U.S. Army Special Operations veteran, and their two daughters, Madilyn and Nova. Together, they share a love for art, nature, and the simple adventures that spark inspiration and creativity in everyday life.
Through her teaching and art practice, Lauren continues to champion the belief that creativity has the power to build confidence, strengthen communities, and inspire a lifelong appreciation for beauty and imagination.
