- I believe that a student who can think creatively, collaborate with others, and communicate their ideas effectively can do anything! The students in Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s art program learn to think deeply and differently. They learn to value each other’s opinions and choices. They learn about different cultures and the modern world around them. They learn from each other and collaborate to find solutions. They learn that critiques and reflections are valuable ways to assess success ... read more and determine solutions. - I believe that through art, all students can participate in hands-on problem solving. Art projects are rooted in the building of skills and concepts, as well as the study of art history and a variety of cultures; however, projects are open-ended and student-driven. Students are allowed to choose their own direction, style, and media. This encourages students to be creative and original. Students learn that there are many ways to solve the same problem. They learn to respect and value the opinions and work of their peers. By being inventive, students develop their self-confidence, become self-motivated, practice persistence, and learn to be innovators. With an integrated approach, students will discover that artists are lifelong learners. Artists make decisions based on math, science, engineering, literature, history, and current events. Art can be the subject where students learn how to use the knowledge that they acquired in other subject areas. They learn to observe, analyze, and synthesize information. Then they learn to experiment with that information in order to create innovative solutions. - Art education helps students to connect and communicate with the world around them. Students learn how to process the historical and modern visual images around them. They learn to understand the importance of visual images in our culture. They learn that because of the influence of these images on society and culture, artists have to think carefully and make virtuous decisions about the images that they produce. Through art, students can build up our society and make the world a better place. - I believe that art education can prepare our students to be the innovators of the future. Art creates imaginative thinkers who can problem solve effectively. Art creates students that can understand themselves, others, and the world around them. Art creates people who can communicate a message and have the confidence to change our society and our culture for the better. Art education develops the whole child and will benefit every student no matter what profession they choose when they grow up.
