Mrs. Mitchell has taught art since 1984 to artists from i ... read moren their 80's to 3 years of age. She has worked in art programs in museums, private institutions and public schools throughout the southeast. Some of her students have gone on to pursue art as careers and have won awards such as the Scholastic Portfolio of the Year and Ringling's President's Award. "My personal philosophy is that everyone is an artist. I tell my students that the definition of an artist is one who makes art. They decide if they are going to be good or great artists. It is my desire to aid artists to achieve their personal best and realize the importance of their visual voice so they can be healthy, happy, responsible members of our society. I support art from the start because I have seen historically and personally the power it has to change not only individual lives but our world. For me the arts are essential to healthy human development and not just a nice extra."
