Cynthia McKeon Hello Families! I am so grateful to be teaching at Foster Elementary School! I have been teaching in Hingham since 1992 (where has the time gone?!) I have degrees from: Hamilton College; Massachusetts College of Art; and Endicott College and keep current with art education professional development. It is also possible because of a grant that the wonderful Foster PTO funded many years ago whic ... read moreh gave the art room an iPad, then the subsequent grant for a few more iPads by the Hingham Education Foundation. I am so glad to be up and running again, uploading student art after the many challenges of last year. I am also grateful to have the support of our Principal, Mr.Sheufele, in scheduling time for this time-consuming task! From gallery creation to finish, it takes about 2 minutes to photograph, edit and upload each piece of art. Each child can expect to have two or three pieces uploaded per term. Anything more is a bonus! (Did you know that you are able to upload art that your child creates at home? The Artsonia App is free, and is a great way to upload photos. Your storytellers may even love to write about their creations!) Disclosure: Artsonia donates 20% of all purchases back to Foster's art program - these funds are used to directly support the art program with technology; art show display items; and other art items for the Foster Art Room that benefit your children. What is most important for me, however, is that your child: 1) learns to value their creative problem solving abilities, 2) understands that there are many ways to solve a challenge; 3) gains confidence in expressing him or herself; 4) makes progress in in all of the Artist Habits of Mind; 5) learns to enjoy thinking about art that he or she looks at, and wonders why it was made the way that it was created; and 6) above all, will come to love the challenge of creating a well crafted piece of art. Foster Pto Mission Statement: The Foster School PTO, a volunteer organization, shall endeavor through its activities, to strengthen and support the relationship between home and school. These activities shall be directed toward creating and supporting programs and events to enrich the academic and social experiences of the Foster community.
