Meet Annabelle Hicks
from Kingston K-14 School District
Cadet, Missouri
Biography
I began teaching art at Kingston Elementary/Primary during the 2022-2023 school year. That year was the first year Kingston switched from a one semester art program into a full year. We started this switch with a very exciting TAB (Teaching Artistic Behaviors) styled curriculum. Unlike traditional art education, where the pattern was assigning uniform projects with students replicating their instructor, I was able to act as a facilitator, launching students into being authentic artists who self-direct their creative process, choose their own materials, and develop their own ideas.
In 2025-2026 school year we started using Artsonia as our main portfolios in an attempt at record keeping in a modern world. As you visit student works, I encourage you to take pride in knowing that their ideas are fully their own, and that every work was meaningful to them at the time of creation.
With every mark you make, be it a paint brush, pencil, or otherwise, you are adding a record of yourself into this world. Be an artist, leave a record of you.
Never stop creating,
Ms. Hicks
