Biography
I am a proud teacher of students 6-12th grades in a rural school. I teach perception and observational skills to make drawing a learnable skill. I demystify the creativity myth and teach creative problem skills along with idea generation. I stress the growth mindset. I grade on growth, risk taking, and persistence. We explore art materials and various techniques. We react to art prompts, themes to develop our voice until eventually we create our own thoughts and themes. Happily I know my students by more than just name, I invest into them. I teach art with a sense of nuturance, toughness and humor. Students are artists and I teach using the Teaching for Artistic Behaviour model (TAB) that encourages authentic artwork that is developmentally appropriate and meaningful. Skills are not taught through the actual artwork they create. Skills are taught as workshops prior with various techniques. Students decide which to put in a following project. Uploads to Artsonia are weekly to document their learning and progress.
My artwork shows and documents the creative art process.
