Biography

I have been the art teacher at Charleston High School since 2017. Charleston is also where I have lived since 2010 (not counting my time at EIU).

I started teaching art in 2009. I student-taught in Effingham that Spring, and was hired at Neoga as their district art teacher that Fall. While there, I directed the high school theatre productions (I was always a performing arts kid, in addition to visual arts), sponsored Art Club, and for two years coached Junior High Scholar Bowl. During my time there, I also completed my Master's in Art Education.

I was part of one of the mass lay-offs in 2015 (and my husband was one of the last to be laid off from EIU less than a year later). During the 2015-2016 school year, I was a long-term sub for the art teacher at that time in Dieterich, and also subbed for a variety of subjects and grade-levels in Mattoon and Charleston. That following year, I replaced the art teacher in Dieterich, where I was "half-time," but taught fourth grade through high school art on a semi-regular basis, and also taught occasional mini-lessons to the lower grades. That year I also directed their school play, and facilitated the building of the set.

I now have a MUCH shorter commute, and a much less hectic schedule! It's also been nice to focus on one age group and one building.

Other than art, in my spare time I enjoy reading, singing, doing community theatre, and traveling.
